BIG SPRING -- A leak in a vacuum tower is being blamed for a fire that injured one person at a Howard County refinery.

ALON officials say that a vacuum tower at their Big Spring Refinery was being shut down for planned maintenance work when the fire broke out around 7:25 PM on February 3rd.

A leak in the vacuum tower reportedly sparked the blaze.

The Big Spring Fire Department sent three fire trucks and an ambulance to the refinery and firefighters put out the blaze quickly.

One refinery employee was taken to Scenic Mountain Medical Center with smoke inhalation, but no one else was injured.

ALON officials say that there was only minor damage to the facility, and they blaze should have little to no impact on the previously planned maintenance work.

ALON officials were in the process of cleaning up, assessing damage and planning for repairs Monday.
