MIDLAND-- It didn't take long for the jury to come down with a verdict.

On Wednesday morning, around 10 o'clock, they found 24 year-old James Creech guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and assault on a public servant.

This all stems from the incident back in June of 2012 where Creech shot a man, and then bit a police officer while he was high on bath salts.

After the jury announced their verdict the trial moved into the punishment phase.

This is where we heard testimony from witnesses on both sides.

The prosecution brought up an incident back in 2010 where several witnesses said Creech and his friend attacked and assaulted a man to the point of breaking his jaw and several other bones on his face.

This incident was discussed to give the jury insight to Creech's character.

But, when it came time for the defense to question witnesses, we heard from several friends and family members of Creech; including a cousin who testified over Skype.

These witnesses all spoke highly of Creech and said these events are completely out of character.

The trial ended around 4:30 Wednesday evening and will pick back up Thursday morning at 9.
