BIG SPRING-- Connie Sherman was married to Daniel Flores for 18 years.

She says the death of her ex-husband shocked everyone in the family.

"He came and woke my son up about 2 o'clock that night," explained Sherman. "And told him that he had been jumped by 4 or 5 people."

Sherman tells us her son told Flores to go to bed so they could sort everything out later.

But the next morning Flores was gone, and the family knew something was wrong.

"We looked for 2 days and we couldn't find him," said Sherman.

It wasn't until her son thought to check the old abandoned vehicle outside the home, that they discovered what happened.

"Everybody had been around the car already," recalled Sherman. "We never thought about him being in there. And he (Flores' son) goes over there, and looks in there, and his dad is lying in their dead."

Big Spring police say an autopsy shows Flores died from internal injuries after fighting with several men over a 6 pack of beer.

Sherman says she thinks her ex-husband knew he was dying, so he climbed into the car to keep his family from seeing him.

"I hope they get the ones that did it," said Sherman. "And I hope they send them to jail."

Police say the case is still under investigation.

They're still talking to witnesses.

And while the family waits for justice, they tell us they're heartbroken over the loss of their loved one.

"They don't think that their dad should have died so young," stated Sherman. "He's 44. And he's got 5 grand-kids now that aren't going to get to know him."

Flores' family didn't want to go into too much detail regarding the case, but they believe he was attacked by about 5 men.

Big Spring police have not said how many attackers they think there were.
