HOBBS, NM -- Massive federal spending cuts could be on the way nationwide, unless federal lawmakers can figure out a way to lower the nation's debt.

The potential $600 million budget cut could have a substantial effect on the Permian Basin and southeast New Mexico.

The Lea County Regional Airport in Hobbs, NM and the Roswell International Air Center in Roswell, NM could have their air traffic controls shut down entirely.

Meanwhile, Midland International Airport wouldn't be affected by the budget cuts.
