MIDLAND-- Vietnam veteran Darrell Sanders is stepping back in time at the Commemorative Airforce Museum.

"I was in the delta of Vietnam," explained Sanders. "We were the only aerial weapons company in that whole area."

This is why Sanders tells us he's flooded with war memories as he walks through the new exhibit, featuring  historic artifacts, and describing the different aircraft that were used in battle.

"The cobra was developed strictly as an aerial weapon," recalled Sanders. "We could pinpoint targets a lot closer than people thought we could."

Even though the Cobra wasn't necessarily the fastest aircraft in history, Sanders says it was still effective because it allowed him and his troop to hover over the action.

"We could get down to our troops and put in suppressive fire very, very close to them."

Because of its unsuccessful outcome, the Vietnam War tends to get forgotten.

That's why Sanders says he's delighted the public can be informed through this exhibit, and the veterans, who fought this fight, can finally receive some of the recognition they deserve.

"I was glad to see it develop," said Sanders. "Because most of the veterans I talked to kind of feel forgotten."
