MIDLAND -- A current Midland City Councilman my be throwing his hat into the Midland mayoral race.

Midland City Councilman John James says he plans to run for Midland mayor if Wes Perry does not run for re-election.

With Midland booming and growing, Councilman James says now is the time to turn challenges into opportunity and build a promising future for the city.

"Some projections have said as much as 150,000 by 2015, 200,000 people by year 2020," James told Big 2. "That means a lot of things, that means a lot of challenges for the community. it also means a lot of opportunity. I think I am perfectly positioned because of my city manager background and my private sector background to really help us solve, mold and shape and lead on those challenges and opportunities."

The deadline to file for the mayoral race is in August.

The election will be held in November.
