Accused Heroin Dealer Arrested In Carlsbad, NM

Robert Martinez was arrested on the morning of March 7th.
Martinez had an outstanding federal drug trafficking arrest warrant at the time of his capture.
Agents with the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force found Martinez in a room at the Continental Inn (3820 National Parks Highway) on the morning of March 7th.
Martinez was taken into custody after a short standoff.
Now, Martinez is charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute and carrying a firearm during in relation to a drug-trafficking crime.
The Pecos Valley Drug Task Force also reportedly crossed paths with Martinez on October 10, 2012.
Agents say that Carlsbad Police stopped Martinez for a traffic violation in the 200 block of South Maple Street.
However, officers suspected that he had drugs in his vehicle -- and they reportedly called the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force to the scene.
Agents arrived on scene and they reportedly found that Martinez was in possession of 25.83 grams of heroin, 12.8 grams of cocaine and a Taurus .40 caliber handgun.
It remains unclear if Martinez was formally charged for the October 2012 incident.
