Pit Bull Owner Speaks Out After Dog Attack

ECTOR COUNTY--An Ector County resident, who didn't want to go on camera, is outraged over allegations against 6 of his pit bulls.
"We train these dogs with love," said the dog owner. "We don't train fighting dogs. We don't do that."
On Monday a 54 year-old woman from Ector County was walking along West 10th St. when she was viciously attacked by 6 pit bulls.
The woman was rushed into surgery, and the dogs were rounded up and taken to Odessa Animal Control, who's asking why the owners have this many dogs.
"In order to do that you need to be able to maintain, and take control," said Sherrie Carruth with Odessa Police Department. "And be responsible for the actions of those animals."
Meanwhile, the dog owners adequately tell Big2 they're not even sure it was their dogs that did the attack.
"There's also other dogs in the neighborhood that are pit bulls as well," explained the dog owners. "So I don't know if it was ours."
The Ector County Sheriff's Department couldn't comment on the investigation since it's still ongoing.
But, the dog owners tell us aside from dealing with a stack of citations, they could be facing up to 20 years of jail time for each dog.
"We didn't train these dogs to do that," stated one of the dog owners. "That's why there should not be any jail time."
Odessa Animal Control tells us they've received calls on these dogs at least 5 times prior to this week's incident.
And while they aren't handling any of the possible criminal charges, Animal control says the dog owners need to take responsibility for all aspects of the case.
"If you take them on to your property, you're responsible for them," said Carruth. "And you're responsible to make sure that they don't get out and they don't hurt anyone else."
The dog owners tell us they tried to contact the victim at Medical Center Hospital, and want her to know how sorry they are if their dogs were involved.

These pit bulls were habitually roaming and the owners didn't care. They don't care now either. The 'sorry' is only self-pity because suddenly there are consequences to pay. Meantime, this depravedly negligent person is still saying 'it weren't MY pit bulls'. He wants them back so he can let them roam again, 'whew, got out of jail time, back to business as usual'.
Charges need to be pressed and both this man and the 17 y.o. need to do 20 years for each of the pit bulls. In the meantime, any and all pit bulls caught roaming even once should be summarily captured and put down. If the authorities won't do it, then people in the neighborhood should. This scum that thinks it's just fine when their pit bulls maul and kill need to have the lid come down on their noses, HARD.
