Midland City Council Agrees To Purchase Old Midland County Courthouse

MIDLAND -- A plan to replace the old Midland County Courthouse with a mixed-use high rise building took two important steps forward on Monday morning.

Big 2's Jenne Anderson reports that both the Midland City Council and Midland County Commissioners approved the sale of the old Midland County Courthouse building during separate special meetings on Monday morning.

The decision paves the way for the City of Midland to demolish the building (which is located along Wall Street in downtown Midland) and replace it with a 59-story high rise building.

The City of Midland announced on March 13th that the proposed skyscraper could include a five-star hotel, Class A office space, retail space and residential space.

The City of Midland has called the proposed building an anchor for development in downtown Midland.

The old Midland County Courthouse -- which was built in 1930 -- has sat vacant since the City of Midland opened a newer and larger courthouse near the intersection of Lorraine Street and Tennessee Avenue in September 2010.
