Senior Catcher Ryan Whittenberg says "I think we have to want to win instead of knowing that we're undefeated. Instead of thinking we can beat everybody we have to know we can beat everybody. Wehave to have the mentality of like a killer instinct, and just beat every team like we know how."
MIDLAND -- The Bulldogs are 17-5-1 so far in 2013, and have started district play undefeated at 6-0. The offense has been consistent, scoring 56 runs in their 5 district wins. But one thing that's key for the Bulldogs is no matter who takes the mound, they take care of business.
"Well i think it's been our pitching that's carried us. Our pitching has been phenomenal. Jackson Lancaster is pitching so well, Alex Mata is pitching really well, I really feel like we're four deep, maybe even five. Jimmy Essman and Lance White, those four guys and then Jeremy Hallmark is throwing very well for us. I think probably our pitching has been the best thing is how well those guys have done" said Head Coach Barry Russell.
There's no true team captain of this Bulldog squad, but you can sense from being around them that they play for each other and are determined to continue their season all the way until june when the state tournament comes knocking.
"We love to play the game that;s really the aspect that we have. We have to play the game like it's supposed to be played and i think that's what we're doing right now. Playing really hard and playing for the name on our chest which is Midland High Baseball" Said Whittenberg.
A total team effort, and a squad that is well on their way to having a great year in District 2-5A.
