GARDEN CITY -- For the first time in years, the Garden City Bearkats are under the radar, and that is just where they like it.

In his first year as head coach, Matt Odom will have the task of following Vance Jones, who is now the head coach in Balmorhea. Jones won two straight state titles in 2009 and 2010, but failed to take the Bearkats to the post season in 2011.

Odom will not change much from Jones' system, but will tweak the offense.

"We're going to do things a little different," Odom said. "Instead of running a tight formation, we're going to try and spread the ball out more."
