BALMORHEA -- Vance Jones takes over the Bears this year after Lonnie Flippen retired.

Jones comes to the Balmorhea after coaching in Garden City for the past six years, where he won two state titles. As for the Beras, they went 4-6 in 2011 and suffered a first round playoff exit.

A new offense comes with the new coach, and his team seems to be picking it up fairly quickly.

"This is a new sytem for them offensively, and they've really done a good job," Jones said. "They're excited about what we're doing. They're learning and working real hard, and we're further along right now then I thought we'd be offensively."
