As the polls closed in Texas Tuesday evening, Republican Mike Conaway was quickly declared the unofficial winner of the 11th Congressional District of Texas.  He defeated Democratic challenger Jim Riley and Libertarian Scott J. Ballard.

Conaway was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2004 and began serving in January of 2005. He has been there ever since, representing Midland, Odessa, and San Angelo as well as 36 counties in the state.

Mike Conaway currently serves on the House Agriculture, Armed Services, and Ethics Committees.   He is also one of the few Certified Public Accountants in Congress.

Democrat Jim Riley launched his campaign early in 2011, hoping that a head start would help him gain name recognition for his campaign. He vigorously drove across the entire 11th Congressional District.

Riley said he was motivated to run because of the increasingly divided state of America and a belief that Congress has forgotten the hard-working average Americans.  He also did a lot of campaigning via social media to try and get the word out.
