ODESSA -- This week is National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child.

Operation Christmas Child is a worldwide project that gives gift boxes to needy children and shares the gospel with them for Christmas.

Sherwood Baptist Church in Odessa is one of four West Texas drop off locations, collecting toys and school supplies and filling the Christmas boxes.

"The past 6 years, we've collected 32,123 shoeboxes," Collection Center Coordinator Mava Smith told Big 2. "This year, our goal is 10,001."
