After a four month mission to the International Space Station, the Soyuz spacecraft has returned to Earth.

The capsule touched down Monday morning local time in Kazakhstan after 127 days in orbit.

On board were three astronauts from Russia, the US and Japan.

During their time at the Space Station, the astronauts participated in space walks and conducted more than 40 scientific experiments.

Since the retirement of the U-S space shuttle fleet last year, the Soyuz capsule is the only way for astronauts to go back and forth from the orbiting international laboratory.
