Federal Investigators Re-Enact Midland Train Tragedy To Gather Information

MIDLAND -- Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board re-created the November 15th Midland train tragedy on Tuesday -- in order to fully determine how factors such as speed, time and distance lead to the fatal accident.
N.T.S.B. investigators conducted a sight-distance test at the railroad crossing near West Industrial Avenue and South Garfield Street for much of Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators used the exercise to determine what the driver of the train could see at the time of the crash, which killed 4 military veterans who had been wounded in combat and injured 17 other people.
Investigators also conducted the test to see if anything else could have been done to prevent the accident.
Several photographs and measurements taken during the study will be used as data during the investigation.
As of Tuesday evening, the N.T.S.B. hasn't released their findings from the exercise.
