MIDLAND -- An Oklahoma man has been arrested for allegedly causing a crash that killed a pregnant woman and her unborn child.

Devin Lee Speers  was arrested on November 14th for his alleged role in the fatal crash, which happened in northeastern Midland County on June 30th.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers say that Speers -- who's from Ada, OK -- was driving a 2004 international truck north in the southbound lane of TX 137 just north of F.M 307 when the truck smashed head-on into a 2005 Ford pickup truck.

A pregnant passenger in the pickup -- equine therapist Catherine Elaine Porter of Stanton -- was airlifted to Odessa Regional Medical Center after the crash.

Porter, 35, died 6 hours after the crash at O.R.M.C..

Porter's unborn child also did not survive.

The driver of the pickup truck -- 38-year-old Russell Sunny Porter -- was also rushed to O.R.M.C. with unknown injuries after the crash.

Speers was rushed to Midland Memorial Hospital with head injuries after the crash, but he ultimately recovered.

Authorities say no one involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.

Now, Speers is charged with two counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

As of Thursday evening, Speers was being held in the Midland County detention Center on $75,000 bond.
