LUBBOCK -- Kicks 99 offered up the VIP experience of a lifetime, when the radio station gave away 23 pairs of tickets to see George Strait kick off his"Cowboy Rides Away" tour in Lubbock.
For many, the Friday night concert was an opportunity to say goodbye to one of their heroes.
One man told Big 2 he had been since George Strait released his first hit in 1981.
A fully stocked, chartered bus picked up the group of winners, and for most of these fans, this was the beginning of their trip, but for one couple from Mead, Oklahoma, the trip actually got started the night before.
"We had to get rid of a dog, 3 kids, and drive 7 and a half hours. We got in about 1:30 this morning," the Coopers told us.
After everyone got their tickets, and loaded onto the bus, it was time to take off for Lubbock.
The bus picked up the group at the radio station, and it was clear that everyone was very excited to take part in the event.
The destination for the happy travelers: the campus of Texas Tech University, where everyone filed off and made their way to the United Spirit Arena.
The arena was the setting for the much anticipated concert that did not disappoint.

It was the perfect ending for a once in a lifetime opportunity.
