ODESSA -- The West Texas Food Bank is hoping to turn the Super Bowl into one of the biggest times of giving.

The West Texas Food Bank is partnering with Albertson's for this year's Souper Bowl of Caring.

The program allows shoppers to donate $8 at the checkout, to provide a bag of much needed staples that will go directly to the food bank.

However, the West Texas Food Bank has received 1,400 fewer bags of donations in 2013 than they did in 2012.

"We want people to be excited about the Super Bowl, but we also want people to be excited about giving back to their community," Rodney Hall of the West Texas Food Bank told Big 2.

The Souper Bowl of Caring program is important for keeping inventory up, as this the winter months are usually marked by a slow down in donations.

The Souper Bowl of Caring runs through this Sunday.
