GARDENDALE -- As the investigation into the death of a Russian-born child in Gardendale continues, the State of Texas is looking into the agency that was behind the boy's adoption.

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is looking into the Gladney Center, which handled the adoption of Max Shatto by Gardendale residents Alan and Laura Shatto.

The T.D.F.P.S. wants to see if the Gladney Center properly screened the Shattos as prospective parents.

The Gladney Center says that Texas law keeps them from being able to comment on a family or an adoptee.

Russian authorities claim that Max Shatto, 3, was abused before his death in January, but no charges have been filed in connection with his death.

The Ector County Sheriff's Office is still waiting for autopsy results on Shatto to come back.

Shatto's autopsy is being performed in Tarrant County.

This would be the 20th Russian adoptee murdered by American adopting parents. The international adoption industry refuses to admit there's a problem. Agencies like Gladney place profit ahead of children's safety. I was adopted from a German orphanage by an American couple and applaud the ban prohibiting Americans from adopting Russian children. In this TV interview, I describe international adoption from the perspective of a foreign orphan adopted to the U.S. and harm caused by uprooting children from their native countries and cultures.
