Corvin Byrd was sentenced to 3 years in prison (followed by 2 years of parole) on March 4th.
Byrd pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charges in the 5th Judicial District Court of New Mexico before he was sentenced.
Byrd shot Jorge Morales at the Great Western Inn (3804 National Parks Highway) around 10 PM on July 16, 2012.
Byrd also reportedly shot Mario Leon in the leg outside of the Fiesta Chevron around 11 PM on July 16, 2012.
Police say that Byrd and Leon had struggled over a gun in Morales' room at the Great Western Inn before the shootings took place.
Byrd ran off to Florida after the shooting, but he was arrested and extradited back to New Mexico.
Because the crime is classified as violent, police say Byrd will have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence.
