Woman Arrested After Artesia, NM Stabbing

ARTESIA, NM -- A Lake Arthur, NM woman is accused of stabbing another woman in the chest in Artesia, NM.

    Priscilla Mesquita was arrested around 4:45 PM on March 5th.

    Artesia Police say that Mesquita, 21, got into a brief verbal argument with a 32-year-old Artesia woman in the 2700 block of West Grand Avenue in Artesia around 4:30 PM on March 4th.

    Mesquita reportedly pulled out a small knife during the argument and violently stabbed the other woman twice in the chest.

    Several people reportedly witnessed the attack.

    The victim was rushed to Artesia General Hospital, and she was reportedly moved to a Lubbock hospital for further treatment.

    Police say the victim is in stable condition, and she's expected to be released later in the week.

    Meanwhile, Artesia Police detectives gathered clothing, blood samples and witness statements before arrested Mesquita.

    Mesquita is now charged with aggravated battery, which is a 3rd degree felony.

    As of Thursday evening, Mesquita was being held in the Eddy County (NM) Detention Center on $75,000 bond.

    A trial date has yet to be set for Mesquita.
   
    If convicted, Mesquita races up to 3 years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.
