White House Tours Shut Down, Saving Money

The White House Visitor center is canceling all tours starting Saturday March 9 due to forced budget cuts.
An automated message at the visitor center's hotline is delivering the news.
This will help the agency save 74 thousand dollars a week.
That's the cost of paying 37 uniformed officers 50 dollars an hour each week to secure the tour route.
This adds up to roughly two million dollars a year.
Newt Gingrich tweeted, "Canceling white house tours is childish and dishonest. The golf weekend in Florida cost enough to keep the White House open for months."
