BIG SPRING -- A fire that torched an abandoned Big Spring hospital could have been set on purpose.

Big Spring Fire Marshal Clay Condray tells KBYG Radio in Big Spring that some sort of human involvement caused the fire that severely damaged the old Hall-Bennet hospital on March 13th.

However, Condray isn't sure if the fire was an arson, or was started accidentally.

The fire broke out at the abandoned building -- which is located at East 8th Street and Goliad Street -- around 7:30 PM on March 13th.

Flames quickly shot into the attic and roof, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the 2nd floor of the building, which hasn't been used in over 20 years.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze before midnight Thursday.

Two firefighters were taken to Scenic Mountain Medical Center with strains to their back and knee, respectively, while fighting the blaze.
