UPDATE:  9:30pm  After a challenging battle, Odessa firefighters got the fire out.

It was confined to two buildings.  They are still working to determine the exact cause.

ODESSA -- Around 7:30pm Thursday night Odessa firefighters were called out to a fire at a shopping center along the 3600 blk. of Dixie.

When they arrived they found heavy smoke pouring out of The Trophy Den and Shantique's.  Because some of these buildings are connected, they quickly had to pull back from the buildings and focus on defending other structures.

Firefighters had to evacuate dogs from inside a dog grooming shop that was already closed for the night.  They brought them out in crates to get them to safety.

Odessa Police are also shutting down streets for several blocks around this area to make sure that firefighters have unrestricted access to the fire.
